Story Highlights:

Shubman Gill is expected to play Punjab's Ranji Trophy games.

Gill has had a long drought of half-century in international cricket.

India’s Test and ODI skipper Shubman Gill will be busy playing domestic cricket for the rest of 2025-26 season. After getting dropped from India’s T20 World Cup 2026, Gill was named in Punjab’s Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26 squad. Now, a report has emerged that he will be playing Punjab’s remaining two Ranji Trophy 2025-26 matches when it resumes.

As per a report by TOI, Gill will play two Vijay Hazare matches next year before linking up with the India squad for three-ODI series against New Zealand. The two games he will play are against Sikkim and Goa in Jaipur on January 3 and 6. While India play the T20I series, Gill will don the white jersey, playing two Ranji Trophy group stage matches of Punjab.

If they progress to the knockout stage, Gill may be seen playing Ranji Trophy during the T20 World Cup 2026. The quarterfinals are scheduled to commence on February 6.

Gill set to finish as highest Test run-scorer of 2025

In the Boxing Day Test, Joe Root (790 runs), Travis Head (759 runs), Alex Carey (743 runs), Harry Brook (712 runs) and Ben Duckett (699 runs) may end up getting close to Gill's tally of runs.
