Australia name ODI and T20I squad for Ashes, star player ruled out due to knee surgery

A couple of weeks ahead of the ODI series which is part of the women's Ashes, Cricket Australia announced their limited overs squad.

Highlights:

Cricket Australia on December 28 announced the T20I and ODI squads for the multi-format women's Ashes 2025 starting January 12. Australia's spin-bowling all-rounder Sophie Molienux has been ruled out of the series as she is set to undergo knee surgery. Earlier this month, she led Melbourne Renegades to Women's Big Bash League (WBBL) title.

"Sophie Molineux will undergo left knee surgery next month, following that we will provide further updates on an anticipated return date," team physiotherapist Kate Beerworth said.

Australia captain Alyssa Healy is fit to lead the home side in the women's Ashes. After missing the series against India, she made a comeback in the New Zealand series but did not keep wickets. There is a possibility that she may not don the wicketkeeping gloves in the Ashes as well.

"It was pleasing to see Alyssa Healy return to action against New Zealand and looked in good touch, along with a number of batters continuing their strong form on from the recent series against India," Cricket Australia's Head of Performance (Women's Cricket) and National Selector, Shawn Flegler said.

Meanwhile, opener Georgia Voll is set to play her first Ashes series. She scored a century in the three-ODI series against India in absence of an injured Healy.

"Whilst Georgia Voll didn't play against New Zealand, she's made a brilliant start to her international career and will be a strong option with the bat if required in her debut Ashes series," Flegler said.
