The Austrian cricket team staged a remarkable comeback to defeat Romania by seven wickets in match seven of the ECI T10 Romania, 2024.

Batting first, Romania amassed a formidable total of 168 runs in their allotted ten overs, thanks largely to a century from wicketkeeper Ariyan Mohammed (104*) and a quick-fire 42 from opener Muhammad Moiz. Austria faced a daunting task of chasing down 168 runs in just ten overs. With eight overs gone, they had managed 107 runs for the loss of three wickets, leaving them needing a staggering 61 runs from the final two overs. However, Aqib Iqbal produced a sensational performance to steer Austria to an unbelievable victory, achieving the seemingly impossible target.

Romania's bowler, Manmeet Koli, had a disastrous outing, conceding a total of 57 runs in his two overs. The penultimate over was particularly damaging, as he leaked 41 runs, including nine extras. Austria's chase was then finished off in dramatic fashion by Imran Asif and captain Aqib Iqbal. They ruthlessly attacked Chamika Fernando's final over, smashing four sixes and securing victory with four balls to spare. Iqbal was the star of the show with an unbeaten 72 off just 19 balls. Imran Asif contributed a quickfire 22, while opener Karanir Singh provided a solid foundation with 30 runs.

 

Captain Aqib Iqbal played a blistering unbeaten innings of 72 runs off just 19 balls, hitting 2 fours and 10 sixes, with an astonishing strike rate of 378.95, thrashing the Romanian bowlers. Additionally, Imran Asif scored an unbeaten 22 runs off 12 balls. Karanbir Singh contributed 30 runs off 13 balls, and Bilal added 17 runs off 7 balls. Earlier, Romania's batsman Aryan Mohammed played a stormy century innings, scoring 104 runs off just 39 balls with the help of 11 fours and eight sixes, maintaining a strike rate of 266.67. Alongside him, Mohammad Moiz scored 42 runs off 14 balls.
