Star Pakistani speedster and spearhead, Shaheen Afridi has been out of action since July due to a knee injury he sustained while fielding in a test match against Sri Lanka. As a result, he was ruled out of the recent Asia cup earlier in August. The 22-year-old has returned to the fold after being named in the 15-member T20 World Cup squad of Pakistan, although he is still recuperating from the debilitating injury for which he flew to London.
However former Pakistan captain and star all-rounder Shahid Afridi broke the silence on the background of the injury story with an outrageous claim that Shaheen himself is paying for the rehabilitation and funding his own stay in the UK. Shahid Afridi hit out at the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for offering no assistance to its ace bowler. Afridi also added that he was the one who helped out Shaheed Afridi and arrange for a doctor.
Laying bare more on the issue, the former Pakistan cricketer on Samaa Tv said, “When I talk about Shaheen.. that guy went to England on his own. He bought his own ticket, and he spent his own money to stay in a hotel. I arranged a doctor for him, then he contacted the doctor. PCB is not doing anything, he was doing that on his own."
"Everything, from coordination to doctors to his hotel room and food expenses, he is paying out of his own pocket. As far as I know, Zakir Khan talked to him for 1-2 times, but that was it," he concluded.
