Daryl Mitchell dethrones Virat Kohli on ICC Rankings after just 7 days, Rohit Sharma loses positions too

The New Zealand batter has taken the top spot on the ODI batter rankings after his sensational performance in the recently-concluded series against India

New Zealand batter Daryl Mitchell clinched the No.1 spot on the ICC ODI batter rankings with his outrageous performance against India in the recent one-day assignment. He registered hundreds in both the second and third ODI as the Kiwis made a stunning comeback and won the series by 2-1. The 34-year-old recorded scores of 84, 131* and 137 in the three ODIs respectively.

This superb performance saw Mitchell dethrone Virat Kohli and become the No.1 ODI batter as per the ICC Rankings. He was on the second spot the week prior and climbed a position with consecutive hundreds against India. He now has 845 rating points under his name while Virat is down to the second spot after just seven days with 795 rating points.

The India star batter had played an incredible knock of 124 in the third ODI against New Zealand, but it wasn't enough for him to keep his place at the top. Virat performed brilliantly in the series and finished as India's top-scorer with 240 runs from three innings.

Rohit drops down as well

On the other hand, Rohit Sharma has also lost a place on the rankings and has dropped down to the fourth position with 757 rating points. Afghanistan batter Ibrahim Zadran has overtook him and stands on the third place with 764 rating points. KL Rahul climbed a place and reached the 10th position with 670 rating points while New Zealand's Glenn Phillips rose 16 places to end up at the 20th position with his century in the third ODI. Will Young also broke into the top 10 by climbing 10 places with 538 rating points.

Indian bowlers lose several places

Elsewhere, multiple Indian bowlers lost places on the rankings with Kuldeep Yadav going down four places to seventh, Ravindra Jadeja also going down four places down to 25th. Harshit Rana ended up making massive gains and climbed 27 spots to reach the 50th position. Arshdeep Singh also gained 15 places and reached the 55th position, level on 472 rating points with Afghanistan's Fazalhaq Farooqi and West Indies' Matthew Forde.
