Wicketkeeper Dhruv Jurel made history in the Duleep Trophy match against India B at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru. He has equalled the record for the most catches by a wicketkeeper in an innings of Duleep Trophy match, which was previously held by MS Dhoni.

 

Dhruv Jurel equals MS Dhoni's record

 

Jurel's exceptional performance in the second innings saw him take seven catches, helping India A restrict India B to 184 runs. This achievement matched the record set by MS Dhoni in a 2004-05 Duleep Trophy match while playing for East Zone. Prior to Dhoni, the record was held by Sunil Benjamin, who accounted for six catches and one stumping in the 1973 final.

Jurel played a crucial role in India A's success, effecting key dismissals throughout the match. He caught Yashasvi Jaiswal, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Musheer Khan, Sarfaraz Khan, Nitish K Reddy, Sai Kishore, and Navdeep Saini, contributing significantly to India A's efforts to restrict India B to a manageable target.

Unfortunately, Jurel's batting performance was less impressive. He was dismissed for just two runs off sixteen balls in the first innings and a golden duck in the second.

India B faced challenges in their second innings, losing three wickets for just 22 runs. A crucial partnership between Sarfaraz Khan (46 off 36) and Rishabh Pant (61 off 47) helped stabilize the innings, contributing 72 runs. However, the rest of the batting lineup struggled, and India B was eventually bowled out for 184. This set a target of 275 runs for India A to win the match. Akash Deep's outstanding bowling performance, with a five-wicket haul, further strengthened India A's dominance in the field. In their chase, India A found themselves in a precarious position at 76/4 after 15 overs. KL Rahul (20*) and Tanush Kotian (0*) were at the crease, with India A needing 199 runs from the remaining 63 overs.
