Dropped after New Zealand tour in 2023, 24-year-old pacer bags expensive fifer for Shadab Khan-led Panthers' 50-run win over Saud Shakeel's Dolphins

Pakistan's Champions Cup: Mohammad Hasnain was used in short spells by Panthers skipper Shadab Khan and it paid dividends as he provided crucial wickets.

Promising young pacer Mohammad Hasnain, who did not get a long rope and was dropped after their tour of New Zealand, made a mark in the One-Day Champions Cup. On September 14, he helped Shadab Khan-led Panthers register a comprehensive 50-run win with his five-wicket haul after wicketkeeper-batter Usman Khan scored a century.
 

Usman plays anchor role

Shadab won the toss and opted to bat first. Mir Hamza struck with the new ball removing both openers Saim Ayub and Abdul Bangalzai. Umar Siddiq and Usman Khan shared a 70-run partnership. But Siddiq got run out by Asif Ali when he was batting on 30. Mubasir Khan did not make an impact either and fell for a single-digit score to Faheem Ashraf. Haider Ali came in to bat and pushed the scoring rate in the middle overs. He hit five fours and three sixes in his 46-ball 65 while Usman played the anchor role. Abbas Afridi broke the partnership in the 35th over.

Shadab finishes well

In the 39th over, Usman reached his century from 97 balls. Shadab decided to use the platform set by Haider and attacked Dolphins' bowlers. In the 43rd over, Abbas ended Usman's stay at the crease. He scored 111 runs from 1110 balls including 11 fours and three sixes. Amad Butt fell to Usman Qadir whereas Shadab reached his fifty from just 37 balls. In the final over, Qadir struck twice. Usama departed after a 13-ball 22. Hasnain got out for a golden duck whereas Shadab was run out as he wanted the strike back. The captain scored 65 runs from 45 balls including five fours and two sixes taking Panthers' score to 328.

Dolphins lag behind run chase

Dolphins' openers did not succumb to the new ball but Sahibzada Farhan could not provide the acceleration in powerplay overs. Muhammad Hurraira departed after hitting three fours and as many sixes in his 30-ball 39. Skipper Shadab got his wicket in the 13th over. Farhan reached his fifty with a six in the 18th over. On the other end, Muhammad Akhlaq fell to Usama. In his next over, Usama got the better of Farhan as well. He scored 52 runs from 69 balls. The required run rate went up in the middle overs. Hasnain was brought back into the attack and he got Shakeel out with a short ball. Asif Ali hit him for a six before losing his wicket in the 32nd over.

Hasnain ends fight back

Qasim Akram and Ashraf attacked Hasnain and he was taken off the attack. Akram reached his half-century from 50 balls. Akram and Ashraf kept the run rate alive. Hasnain returned in 42nd over to dismiss Akram who scored 65 runs from 62 balls. In the next over, he struck twice to dismiss Abbas and Ashraf. The all-rounder scored 41 runs from 35 balls. Mubasir joined the party and dismissed Noman Ali. Hasnain's bowling figures were spoiled by Hamza hitting him for two consecutive sixes. In the 47th over, Mubasir got the wicket of Qadir to bowl out Dolphins for 278. Hasnain conceded 74 runs from his quota of overs but bagged a five-wicket haul. 
 

Hasnain’s international numbers

The 24-year-old pacer has played nine ODIs and 27 T20Is bagging 12 and 25 wickets respectively. Made his international debut in 2019, his economy rate has not been impressive. He remained wicketless in his last T20I and ODI appearances.
