Former Delhi captain Mithun Manhas is reportedly set to become the next Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president. Manhas’ name was finalised in a meeting on September 20 (Saturday) on the eve of India-Pakistan T20 Asia Cup 2025 clash. However, an official announcement is likely to be made next week after the elections in Annual General Meeting (AGM) on September 28.
Earlier, Manhas as worked as administrator with Jammu & Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) in last few years. He has been nominated by JKCA as well. If Manhas takes up the post, he will be the first uncapped player to do so. However, he has represented three Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises — Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals), now-defunct Pune Warriors India and Chennai Super Kings (CSK).
Manhas had a good record in first-class cricket but he could not make his India debut in the era of Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, VVS Laxman and Sourav Ganguly. He represented India at Under-19 level and the A team as well.
From 157 first-class games, he scored 9,714 runs at an average of 45.82. He has 27 centuries and 49 fifties to his name. In List A cricket, he amassed 4,126 runs from 130 games at an average of 45.84, featuring five centuries and 26 fifties.
Also, former India left-arm spinner Raghuram Bhat will get a place in BCCI as well. His tenure as Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) president will end on September 30. Bhat may take up the treasurer post at the apex council.
Former BCCI president Sourav Ganguly was present at the meeting representing Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB).
Changes in Ajit Agarkar’s selection committee
There are a few changes expected in the men’s senior selection committee as well. Former India left-arm spinner Pragyan Ojha will replace S Sharath. Also, former India left-arm pacer RP Singh will fill in for Subroto Banerjee.
Sharath will become the chairman of the junior men's selection committee currently headed by VS Thilak Naidu.
As the changes will be effective from September 28, the squad for the two-Test series against West Indies at home will be picked by the current selection committee.
