Australia batting legend Greg Chappell came up with an ultimate praise for England's star batter Harry Brook. Former Australia captain Chappell went on to compare Harry Brook with batting great Sachin Tendulkar. In his column for the Sydney Morning Herald, the 76-year-old said that he compares Harry Brook's batting approach to Sachin Tendulkar. He didn't stop there and said that Brook might have outpaced the Indian maestro in terms of impact at the same stage.
Harry Brook compared with Sachin Tendulkar
Brook made his Test debut for England against South Africa in September 2022. Since then, he has established himself as a prolific run-scorer, accumulating 2,281 runs in 24 matches at an impressive average of 58.48. His exceptional performances even saw him briefly occupy the top spot in the Test batting rankings in December 2024.
“Harry Brook, a batting sensation whose performances and approach I compare to the great Sachin Tendulkar. Remarkably, Brook’s early career stats suggest he might even have outpaced the Indian maestro in terms of impact at the same stage,” Chappell said.
Comparing Brook's early career to that of the legendary Sachin Tendulkar, Chappell also talked about the difference in their output. In their first 15 Test matches, Tendulkar scored 837 runs at an average of just under 40, with two centuries to his name. Brook, on the other hand, has amassed a staggering 1,378 runs at an average of nearly 60, including five centuries. This early comparison underscores Brook's extraordinary start to his Test career and the immense potential he possesses.

“To be fair, Sachin was still a teenager while Brook is in his mid-20s,” Chappell further said.
“His stability and minimalistic technique allow him to read the angles of the bowler and adjust his strokes with precision. The result? An extraordinary ability to score from most deliveries, whether they’re pitched full, short, or on an awkward length,” he added.
“Tendulkar’s early brilliance lay in his ability to use the bowler’s pace to his advantage, scoring heavily on both sides of the wicket. Brook, though a bigger and more powerful player physically, has a strikingly similar ability to manipulate the field with wristy flicks, crunching drives, and punishing back-foot shots,” Chappell concluded.
