Stepehen Fleming wants Anshul Kamboj to be the surprise pick in India's squad for England series

India is set to tour Enmgland for five Tests in June

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) head coach Stepehen Fleming believes that pacer Anshul Kamboj can be a good addition into the Indian team for the upcoming five-match Test series against England in June. The 24-year-old has featured regularly for the Chennai-based franchise in their past few matches in IPL 2025.

Anshul Kamboj's performance in IPL 2025

Though he has been given a decent amount of chances, Kamboj's bowling performance hasn't been that impressive and he has only managed to take five wickets in the seven matches he has played so far in the ongoing IPL season. The pacer's economy rate of 8.36 isn't anything groundbreaking either.

However, Fleming still believes that Kamboj will do well if he gets picked in the Men in Blue's squad for the England series as he believes that the English conditions suit the youngster more than the 'flat' wickets in India.

“Kamboj is good. His speeds have been around 138-139 (kmph). He is deceptive and the ball always seems to hit the gloves harder. His big strength is his length, and he just gets the ball to wobble. You have seen it in this year's IPL how he has performed on reasonably flat wickets. I believe he will do well on that tour (of England) if he gets conditions that seam a bit and a little bit of swing,” Fleming said following CSK's 6-wicket defeat to Rajasthan Royals.

"He will be an absolute handful (in English conditions). He has got some real potential with both white and red ball. We're happy with his development and the opportunity he has taken this year,” Fleming added.

Kamboj was recently selected in the India A squad for the upcoming two-match Test series against the England Lions. Impressive performances in these matches can turn out to be quite fruitful for the young gun and he may become one of the new faces that will be seen in India's upcoming Test assignement against England.

“He's shown great temperament under pressure. But what really excites me is how well he controls the ball when the conditions give him a little assistance. That's a skill that's hard to teach – it comes with instinct and he has it,” Fleming concluded.

The CSK pacer is likely to play in the side's final match of IPL 2025 that is set to be against the playoff-bound Gujarat Titans, who will be looking for a victory in order to secure their place in the top two on the IPL points table. The match will be contested on May 25 at the Narendra Modi stadium.
