Former India skipper and head coach Rahul Dravid is all set to enter a new world in the cricketing universe. Dravid has been announced as the co-owner of Dublin's franchise ahead of the inaugural edition of the European T20 Premier League (ETPL), which is set to be held later this year.

New chapter in Rahul Dravid's journey

The franchise will compete under the name Dublin Guardians, with Rahul Dravid set to reunite with former India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin in a new role. As claimed by BBC Sports, Ashwin has been named as the captain of the side for the inaugural edition of the ETPL.

Ashwin's life after retirement

Ashwin retired from Test cricket in the year of 2024, while he stepped away from Indian Premier League (IPL) after playing for CSK in 2025. The legendary spinner was expected to play in the feature in the Big Bash League (BBL) last summer but was ruled out because of a knee injury. Rahul Dravid opens up on team operations

While opening up on his role after buying the team, Rahul revealed that he will not interfere in the cricketing decisions, as he is not going to be present in the dugout or practice session. Rahul made it very clear that he wants to make a good team and stay away from it as he wants to maintain a distance from the cricketing aspect of it.

"I think honestly, the plan is for me not actually to get involved in the cricketing side of things. So to put together a good team that can do the job on a day-to-day basis. You certainly won't see me in the dugout. And I'm not someone who's going to be there at every practice session. Or for that matter, not there for even every game," told Dravid to PTI.

Opening up on signing Ashwin as skipper, Rahul expressed his support, saying they will take every step to make a competitive team to make Ashwin take bold decisions while leading the side.

"But I will certainly be supportive. I think we're lucky to have signed on someone like Ashwin as a captain and a mentor. And we'll put a team around him that will allow him to lead the team and run the team in the way that he wants to," Dravid said.
