ICC slaps Bangladesh all-rounder with two-year ban for failing to produce receipt of iPhone 12 received as gift

Nasir Hossain has been slapped with a two-year ban by the ICC which includes six months suspended. He can return to international cricket in April 2025.

Nassir Hossain has represented Bangladesh in 19 Tests, 65 ODIs, and 31 T20Is.The Bangladesh all-rounder will be allowed to play international cricket in April 2025.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has handed a two-year ban from all forms of cricket to Bangladesh all-rounder Nasir Hussain for breaching the apex cricket board's Anti-Corruption Code. Hossain's two-year ban includes six months suspended as he was charged by the ICC in September 2023 which included failing to produce a receipt for the iPhone 12 he received as a gift. The 32-year-old admitted to all three charges.
 

Here is the list of three charges Hossain has admitted to –
 

- Breach of Article 2.4.3 of the Code, in that he failed to disclose to the Designated Anti-Corruption Official (without unnecessary delay) the receipt of a gift that was offered to him that had a value of over US$750, namely the gift of a new iPhone 12.
 

- Breach of Article 2.4.4 of the Code, in that he failed to disclose to the Designated Anti-Corruption Official full details of the approach or invitation he received to engage in Corrupt Conduct via the new iPhone 12.
 

- Breach of Article 2.4.6 of the Code, in that he failed or refused, without compelling justification, to cooperate with the Designated Anti-Corruption Official’s investigation in relation to possible Corrupt Conduct under the Code, including (without limitation) failing to provide accurately and completely any information and/or documentation requested by the Designated Anti-Corruption Official (whether as part of a formal Demand pursuant to Article 4.3 or otherwise) as part of such investigation.

 

Hossain's international record
 

Hossain has represented Bangladesh in 19 Tests, 65 ODIs, and 31 T20Is. His last international appearance was in a T20I against Sri Lanka in January 2018. He has 1,044 runs in Tests, 1281 runs from ODIs, and 370 in the shortest format. He has a total of 39 international wickets to his name.

 

Hossain's last appearance in domestic cricket
 

He has been playing domestic cricket and franchise cricket in the last few years. His last appearance in domestic cricket was for Prime Bank Cricket Club against Gazi Group Cricketers in Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League 2023. He contributed to his team's 73-run win with a 21-run knock and two wickets.

 

He will be eligible to resume playing cricket on April 7, 2025. However, he will be allowed to play as long as he meets the requirements specified for the remaining part of the suspension.
