Sanju Samson is finally making the opportunities count. He looked flawless in Durban as he destroyed South African bowling attack with his second consecutive T20I century. Samson was lauded by many current and former cricketers on social media.
However, Samson had to wait for a long time to get a long run. He has been in and out of the side. It is only under the current regime, he has got more chances. After a 107-run knock, Samson said that he hopes to stay grounded and enjoy the moment he has waited for a decade.
"If I think a lot I will get emotional. I waited for this moment for 10 years, I'm very happy, grateful and blessed. But I would like to keep my feet on the ground, be in the moment and enjoy," Samson said after the end of the first innings.
Samson was clear about his intent as well. He was attacking the bowlers even if when he was nearing the milestone.
"If the ball is there to be hit, go for it. Focus on one ball at a time and that helps. The wicket does play a big role here, extra bounce and coming from India we do take time to understand the wicket. There's a huge wind blowing from one end and their bowlers bowled very well, our bowlers too would like to copy from them," said the wicketkeeper-batter.
Samson looking to make the most of his form
Samson became the first Indian batter to score two consecutive T20I centuries. He scored his maiden T20I century against Bangladesh in the T20I series at home. He wants to make the most of his new-found form in the format at the international stage.
"Really enjoyed my time in the middle. Playing it well, maximum utilisation of my current form you can say," he said after the match.
Markram praises Samson
Samson was praised by opposition captain Aiden Markram for dominating the proceedings.
"Sanju played incredibly well, put our bowlers under pressure, plans to negate him and better plans will help us going forward. Once he is striking like that, it's pretty hard to stop and you take your hat off to him," Markram said after the 61-run loss.
