India's legendary all-rounder Yuvraj Singh's father, former cricketer Yograj Singh is disappointed with Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma's decision to retire from Test cricket. Yograj believes that Kohli's retirement is a big loss. Seeing the current transition, Yograj drew parallels with events after ODI World Cup 2011 triumph.
"Virat is a big player, so it will obviously be a loss," Yograj told ANI. "When many players were either removed, retired, or coerced into retirement in 2011, the team fell apart and has still not stood back up."
Yograj said that there is lot of cricket left in Kohli and Rohit. He shared what he told Yuvraj when he announced his retirement.
"I told Yuvi (Yuvraj Singh) that it was not the right move when he was retiring. One should walk away from the field when one can no longer walk," he said.
Yograj speculated the reason behind Kohli's retirement and made a controversial statement about the team of youngsters.
"If you form a team full of youngsters, it will always fall apart," he said. "Maybe Virat feels that he has nothing more left to achieve."
In addition, Yograj said that not just Rohit but former India opener Virender Sehwag retired too early as well. He wants great players to play till 50.
"I think Rohit Sharma needed just one person to motivate him daily, for example, to go for a run at 5 AM," the 67-year-old said.
"Rohit (Sharma) and Virender Sehwag are two people who retired too early," he added.
"The greatest players should play till 50 years of age... I am sad about their retirement as no one is left to motivate the youngsters now," he added.
