In a landmark performance at the Greenfield International Stadium, Deepti Sharma etched her name into the record books during India’s third T20I against Sri Lanka. By returning clinical figures of 3/18, the Indian all-rounder equalled Australian pacer Megan Schutt’s record for the most wickets in Women’s T20Is, with both players now sitting at 151 dismissals. Deepti reached this historic milestone in the final over of her spell by dismissing Malsha Shehani.
This breakthrough also solidified her standing as one of the greatest bowlers in the history of the women’s game. With a combined total of 333 international wickets, she has moved into third place on the all-time list, trailing only England’s Katherine Sciver-Brunt (335) and the legendary Jhulan Goswami (355). Given her current form, she appears well-positioned to soon become the most prolific wicket-taker in women's cricket history.
Beyond her bowling prowess, the achievement highlights Deepti's unparalleled all-round versatility. She is now the first woman ever to claim 150 wickets in both T20Is and ODIs. Additionally, she holds the unique distinction of being the first Indian cricketer, across both men’s and women’s formats, to complete the prestigious double of 1,000 runs and 150 wickets in T20 International cricket.
