Ireland captain Gaby Lewis got emotional as she reached her first T20I century at home. After reaching her century, the 23-year-old opener hugged her teammate Rebecca Stokell and cried. She took off her helmet and raised her arms in an emotional celebration as Ireland players lauded him from dugout.

Gaby became the first Ireland batter to score two T20I centuries. Apart from her, Amy Hunter scored a T20I century against Zimbabwe earlier this year. She is also the fifth batter to score a T20I century against Sri Lanka.

Earlier, Gaby won the toss and opted to bat first. Amy departed for a single-digit score in the fifth over. Gaby got to her half-century from 40 balls in the 11th over. She shared a 119-run partnership for the second wicket with Orla Prendergast.

In the penultimate over, she reached her century with a sweep shot towards fine leg. On the final ball of the innings, she was run out. Her 119-run knock off 75 balls was laced with 17 fours and a couple of sixes.

In reply, opener Harshitha Samarawickrama and Kavisha Dilhari scored half-centuries. However, Sri Lanka faltered in the slog overs and lost the match by seven runs. Orla was the pick of the bowlers with a couple of wickets for 28 runs from her quota of overs.

The seven-run win helped level the series 1-1. This is Ireland’s maiden T20I series win over Sri Lanka. This series is the first time Ireland have taken on Sri Lanka since 2016.

Ireland will take on the T20 Asia Cup Champions in the three-ODI series starting August 16.
