Jayden Seales (R) of West Indies appeals for lbw against Babar Azam (L) of Pakistan during the 3rd and final ODI match of the series at Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Tarouba, Trinidad and Tobago, on August 12, 2025.

Story Highlights:

Jayden Seales became the first West Indies pacer to take a six-fer in ODIs against Pakistan.

Pakistan were bowled out for 92 in the run chase, their 10th lowest ODI score.

Shai Hope helped West Indies post an above par total with his unbeaten 120.

Pakistan suffered a massive 202-run defeat in series decider as they lost an ODI series to West Indies after a long gap of 34 years. Jayden Seales starred with a six-wicket haul to bowl out the visitors for a paltry 92 at Brian Lara Stadium, Trinidad. Earlier, skipper Shai Hope starred with the bat, scoring an unbeaten 120 to take the score to 294/6.

Slow start for West Indies

In the decider clash, Pakistan skipper Mohammad Rizwan won the toss and opted to bowl first. Naseem Shah got an early breakthrough in the form on Brandon King. Evin Lewis and Keacy Carty were cautious against the new ball. In the 13th over, Lewis took on Hussain Talat and hit two sixes. The partnership was broken by Abrar Ahmed in the 14th over. Lewis departed after scoring 37 runs from 54 balls. Carty's troubled stay at the crease was ended by Abrar a few overs later. He could score just 17 runs from 45 balls before getting dismissed lbw. At the halfway stage, West Indies were 88/3.

Centurion Hope finishes with a flourish

West Indies crossed the 100-run mark in the 27th over. While Hope scored at a good pace, Sherfane Rutherford struggled and got out for a 40-ball 15 to Saim Ayub. Hope continued to march on and got to his fifty from 54 balls. In-form Roston Chase attacked as well, hitting sixes. In the 41st over, Naseem broken the partnership with a yorker to knock over Chase. He scored 36 runs from 29 balls. Then, Mohammad Nawaz dismissed Gudakesh Motie caught and bowled. But Hope continued to attack and hit Nawaz for two sixes. He gave similar treatment to Abrar in the 18-run over. In the 47th over, Hope reached his 18th ODI century from 83 balls. Justin Greaves contributed with a 24-ball 43, featuring four fours and two sixes. Hope's unbeaten 120 off 94 balls was laced with 10 fours and five sixes. The seventh-wicket partnership took West Indies to 294/6.

Seales seals the win for Windies

Pakistan's run chase got off to a horrendous start. Seales took just three balls to get an edge off Ayub's bat. In his next over, he struck twice to send Abdullah Shafique and Rizwan to pavilion for ducks. Rizwan shouldered arms on a delivery that hit the top of off-stump. Babar Azam could not last long at the crease either. He got out lbw to Seales in the ninth over for a single-digit score. Salman Agha and Hasan Nawaz tried to do some damage control. But Motie got Hasan Nawaz stumped for a 40-ball 13 in the 20th over.

Spin worked for West Indies as Chase knocked over Talat in the next over. Salman's fight came to an end as well. Motie got him out caught and bowled for a 49-ball 30. As West Indies looked to wrap up the proceedings, Seales was brought back into the attack. He dismissed Naseem caught and bowled. In his eighth over, he knocked over Hasan Ali and Abrar got run out next ball. Pakistan were bowled out for 92, their 10th lowest score in the format. Seales became the first West Indies bowler to register a six-wicket haul against Pakistan.

Turnaround for West Indies cricket

The win is a huge boost for West Indies cricket as there was a sense of emergency when Australia whitewashed them in the three-Test and five-T20I series. Hope was named 'Player of the match' for his exceptional knock in tough conditions whereas Seales was adjudged 'Player of the series' for taking 10 wickets at an average of 10.
West Indies' next international assignment is in UAE where they face Nepal in a three-T20I series. Then, they tour India for a two-Test series.
