Legendary England cricketer Ian Botham disclosed that he recently went fishing and managed to live after slipping into water teeming with crocodiles and bull sharks. On Friday, November 8, Botham shared the terrifying facts of the incident on Instagram. Along with Merv Hughes, his former Ashes rival, the renowned cricketer from England was on a fishing trip. On his Instagram post, Botham said that as he was attempting to capture fish, crocodiles and bull sharks nearly devoured him. Additional information about the incident was released by the English media, which reported that the former all-rounder stumbled after catching his leg on one of the boat's ropes.

"My catch of the day was the barra while I was nearly catch of the day for all the crocs and bull sharks... thanks boys for getting me out," Ian Botham wrote on his Instagram.

Botham discussed the event with the English daily Metro. The all-rounder claimed that he was only in the water for a short while and was fortunate not to have had time to consider how catastrophic the fall might have been.

"I was out of the water quicker than I went in it. Quite a few sets of eyes were having a peep at me. Luckily I had no time to think about what was in the water," Botham said.

"The guys were brilliant, it was just one of those accidents. It was all very quick and I’m OK now," Botham added.

Botham has been quite engaged in a number of disciplines since he retired from cricket in 1993. He has a regular TV voice and is a cricket commentator for Sky Sports. In addition, he has guest-edited sports magazines and writes columns for the Daily Mirror.

Botham has been the chairman of Durham County Cricket Club since 2017, and during that time he has been instrumental in stabilizing the club's finances and fostering its growth. Botham enjoys shooting, fishing, and playing golf. In addition, he has his own wine business and has participated in several athletic endeavours, including professional football, where he played for Scunthorpe United before rising to the position of president.

In recognition of his contributions to charity and cricket, Botham received a knighthood in 2007.
