Legendary England fast bowler James Anderson is the most recent member of the nation to be granted a Knighthood. The lone athlete honored in former Prime Minister Rishi Sunak's resignation honors list was England's all-time top wicket-taker. Former England captains Andrew Strauss and Alastair Cook are among the select group of cricket players who will be knighted, along with Anderson.

After Ian Botham (2007), Geoffrey Boycott (2019), Cook (2019), and Strauss (2019), he became the fifth cricketer since 2000 to receive a Knighthood for services to the game and the thirteenth overall. In July 2024, Anderson announced his retirement from Test cricket after an illustrious career.

In Test matches, the right-arm pacer claimed 704 wickets, the most of any fast bowler in the history of the format. The 42-year-old solidified his reputation as one of the best fast bowlers the sport has ever seen by taking 269 wickets in one-day internationals and 18 in T20 internationals.

Anderson still plays county cricket even though he has retired from the international scene. But because of a calf injury, he was unable to begin the current County Championship season. Although he was on the long list for the IPL auction, no team shortlisted him for the super auction last year, and he went unsold in The Hundred draft earlier this year.
