In a major development that surfaced on March 12 (Tuesday), Australia coach Andrew McDonald endorsed star all-rounder Mitchell Marsh to lead the national team during the 2024 T20 World Cup. McDonald batted for Marsh to be formally announced as the T20I captain of Australia ahead of the upcoming marquee ICC tournament scheduled to be played in June in the West Indies and the USA.

"I think all roads will lead to Mitch, so just got to get that ticked off in certain areas," said McDonald.

"We're happy and comfortable with the way he's been able to operate with that T20 team.

"We think he's the leader for the World Cup, and I think that will just be a matter of due course," he added.

Marsh has been leading Australia in T20Is

Since the time Aaron Finch retired, Mitchell Marsh has led Australia in the shortest format of the game at regular intervals. Even in the recently concluded T20I series against New Zealand, Marsh led the team despite Pat Cummins and other senior players being part of the squad.
