The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary announced that former India cricketer Gautam Gambhir will be the next head coach for India and he will join the squad ahead of the Sri Lanka tour where India will play three T20Is followed by 3 ODIs. He was recently involved with the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) as their mentor and he was recently spotted in Kolkata for his farewell.
Gautam Gambhir's reaction after becoming India's head coach
Gambhir reacted to his appointment as India's head coach soon after Jay Shah announced that he will guide team India till 2027. The cricketer took his 'X' (formerly known as twitter) to promise that he will try his best to make every Indian Proud.
“India is my identity and serving my country has been the greatest privilege of my life. I’m honoured to be back, albeit wearing a different hat. But my goal is the same as it has always been, to make every Indian proud. The men in blue shoulder the dreams of 1.4 billion Indians and I will do everything in my power to make these dreams come true!” posted Gambhir.
“It is an absolute honour to serve my tricolour, my people, my country. I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Rahul Dravid and his team of support staff for their exemplary run with the team. I am honoured and excited to take on the role of Head Coach for Team India" Gambhir told BCCI.

Jay Shah took his 'X' (formerly known as twitter) to announce Gautam Gambhir as Rahul Dravid's successor for team India.

Gambhir puts forward Abhishek Nayar's name for coaching staff
Sports Tak understands that Gambhir has put forward his Kolkata Knight Riders' fellow Abhishek Nayar's name for the coaching support staff member. He will most likely take up the role of batting coach surpassing Vikram Rathour or might become Gautam Gambhir's assistant coach.
Men in Blue will play Champions Trophy, World Test Championship, T20 World Cup 2026 and ODI World Cup 2027 under his guidance.
