New Zealand’s veteran pacer Tim Southee hailed India’s bowling spearhead Jasprit Bumrah for his amazing comeback post-injury. Bumrah has been remarkable as a bowler across all formats since returning from an injury. He was ruled out from cricketing action in 2022 due to a serious back injury requiring immediate surgery. Usually, fast bowlers need a considerable time to get back in shape post-injury but he has made an exceptional comeback returning to be better than ever.
Southee highlighted the Mumbai Indians pacer's consistency and sheer brilliance across formats. He particularly talked about his performance in the recent T20 World Cup 2024 won by India. Bumrah with his astonishing performance with the ball was the hero of this historic triumph. Southee spoke about the 30-year-old at the Ceat Cricket Awards.
"To be able to firstly bounce back from the major injury and come back, he's even better than what he was beforehand...He seems to have been able to do that with ease as well...He's probably more experienced, understands his game a bit more. We are just seeing a great version (of Bumrah) across all three formats. He's brilliant across all three at the moment. I don't think there's anyone that he's better in (better than him), he is tremendous across all three (formats)," said Southee.
Bumrah's performance since comeback
Since his return in August 2023, Bumrah has been exceptional. He played a crucial role in India's 2023 ICC ODI World Cup campaign, claiming 20 wickets in 11 matches showing his sheer consistency. He continued his Midas touch in the 2024 T20 World Cup, where he was pivotal in India's victory, securing 15 wickets with an economy of 4.17. This was one of the best economy rates among bowlers in the tournament held in the USA and West Indies. His consistent excellence earned him the Player-of-the-Tournament award helping Rohit Sharma-led India end their 11-year trophy drought.
