Pakistan’s young fast bowler Zaman Khan found himself at the center of a technical controversy during Big Bash League (BBL) clash. While playing for the Brisbane Heat, Zaman’s distinctive slingshot bowling action drew sharp scrutiny from Australian veteran David Warner. Warner, who anchored the Sydney Thunder innings with a commanding 82, was observed frequently questioning the legality of the pacer's delivery stride and raising his concerns directly with the on-field umpires.
The scrutiny added to a challenging debut for Zaman, who joined the Heat as a replacement for Shaheen Shah Afridi. The pacer struggled to find his rhythm, conceding 32 runs in just three overs. However, the Heat ultimately secured the bragging rights, cruising to a seven-wicket win fueled by a brisk 78 from Usman Khawaja.

Spotlight on Zaman Khan as Bowling Action Draws Attention in BBL
When introduced early into the attack, Zaman Khan struggled significantly to establish any rhythm or control. His opening spell was plagued by inconsistent lengths and erratic lines, resulting in multiple wides from various angles. David Warner capitalised on this lack of discipline, easily rotating the strike with singles before dismantling Zaman’s looser deliveries. Warner punctuated his dominant performance by driving a full toss through the covers and punishing a short, wide ball with a powerful pull, comfortably reaching his sixth Big Bash half-century in the process.
Zaman’s fortunes failed to improve during his return spell later in the innings. His attempts to utilize slower balls and wide yorkers backfired as his execution remained off-target, allowing Sam Billings to take full advantage. Billings effectively anticipated Zaman’s predictable pace, using laps and sweeps to find the boundary with ease. One particularly expensive over saw Zaman surrender three consecutive fours and an additional wide, as his lack of velocity gave the batters ample time to pick their spots and direct their shots at will.

Brisbane Heat have the last laugh
Zaman Khan concluded his first appearance of the season with figures of 0/32 from three overs. This wicketless spell highlighted both his early-season rustiness and the immense pressure applied by the Sydney Thunder’s experienced batting lineup. Stepping into the squad as a replacement for the injured Pakistan captain Shaheen Shah Afridi, Zaman faced a steep learning curve in his debut outing for the Heat.
Despite the individual struggles and the controversy surrounding his bowling action, the Brisbane Heat maintained their composure to secure a decisive victory. They chased down the target with ease, finishing seven wickets up as Usman Khawaja took charge. Khawaja’s elegant 78 served as the backbone of the innings, ensuring the Heat comfortably crossed the finish line.
