Bangladesh's 36-year-old pacer Rubel Hossain on April 15 announced his retirement from international cricket. Rubel took to his Facebook account and made the announcement.
He made his last T20I and ODI appearance on New Zealand tour in 2021.
"I am pacer Rubel Hossain. I have played 27 Tests, 104 ODIs and 28 T20Is for Bangladesh," he wrote. "The national team is my passion. But at some point, I had to leave international cricket. With that in mind, I said goodbye to international cricket. However, I intend to continue playing domestic cricket. Thank you to my family, friends, media personnel and fans. I believe that you will continue to support me for the rest of my life."

Rubel’s unwanted Test record
Rubel made his debut across formats in 2009. He had an impact straightaway, claiming a four-fer against Sri Lanka. However, he had a tough time in red-ball cricket. The pacer has 36 wickets from 27 games at an average of 76.77. His average is worse among bowlers who have bowled at least 4,000 balls in their Test career. his only Test fifer came against New Zealand in 2010.
Rubel’s white-ball career in numbers
In T20Is, he bagged 28 wickets from as many games at an average of 32.57. His economy rate is 9.45 runs per over.
It was in ODIs that Rubel thrived. From 104 ODIs, he has 129 wickets at an average of 34.31. He has seven four-fers and a fifer to his name in the format. He is one of the five Bangladesh bowlers to claim an ODI hat-trick. He retires as Bangladesh’s fifth-highest wicket-taker in the format.
While Rubel said that he will continue to play domestic cricket, he hasn't played a single recognised competitive game in over a year.
