Andrea Hewitt said that her husband Vinod Kambli is “fine” and doing okay.

Vinod Kambli was out of the Team India by the age of 28.

Vinod Kambli’s wife, Andrea Hewitt, has rejected recent media reports claiming that the former India cricketer is seriously unwell. She said he is “fine” and doing okay.

Some reports had suggested that Kambli has been suffering from a brain clot since he was hospitalised over a year ago, and that it has affected his memory. But his wife, Andrea Hewitt, has clearly denied these claims.

“By God’s grace, Vinod is fine. I don’t know who is spreading false information about his health," Kambli’s wife, Andrea Hewitt, told journalist Vickey Lalwani as quoted by IndiaToday.

At the same time, concerns about his health were raised earlier by his friend and former first-class umpire Marcus Couto. He said that Kambli has stopped drinking alcohol, but still smokes occasionally, which doctors have warned is dangerous for him.

“Ever since he was hospitalised in Thane about 18 months ago, Kambli has had a clot in his brain. His memory is not good. He remembers things and then forgets about them. That’s all due to that clot in his brain," Couto was quoted as saying by The Times of India.

“Kambli has given up drinking, but he tends to smoke at times. Smoking is completely forbidden for him, because it puts him at risk of a brain stroke, as per the doctor Aadil Chagla (famous neurosurgeon), who has been monitoring Kambli’s treatment," he added.

However, Couto also shared some positive news, saying Kambli recently did an advertisement shoot and looked in reasonably good condition.

“He (Kambli) seemed to be in decent health. He and his family were in good spirits. Kambli now uses a stick to walk around. His son (Cristiano) wants to become a cricketer. I requested Jatin Paranjape to enroll him at his cricket academy, and he immediately agreed. Of course, Jatin won’t charge Kambli’s son anything," he said.

When was Kambli admitted to hospital?

Kambli was also admitted to a Mumbai hospital in December 2024 after suffering a severe urinary infection. At that time, he spoke in a video message from his hospital bed and thanked the doctors for taking care of him.

“I am alive because of the doctors here. All I would say is that I will do whatever sir (referring to the doctor) asks me to. People will see the inspiration that I’ll give them," Kambli had said.

Kambli was once seen as one of India’s most gifted young cricketers. He started his international career strongly, but things did not last long, and he was out of the team by the age of 28. He also had heart-related issues later and underwent surgery in 2013 after two heart attacks.
