Masood got to his double century from 177 deliveries.

Pakistan’s Test captain Shan Masood has broken the record for fastest first-class double hundred for a Pakistan batter. Masood reached his double century in 177 deliveries breaking the record held by Pakistan’s legendary batter and former captain, Inzamam-ul-Haq.

For Sui Northern Gas, Masood scored the double ton against Sahar Associates on Day 1 of the President's Cup departmental tournament.

In 1992, Inzamam had scored a double century from 188 deliveries on a tour match in England.

On Day 1 of the clash on December 28 in Karachi, Masood shared a mammoth 390-run partnership for the second wicket with Ali Zaryab. The opener scored 192 runs from 237 deliveries, including 26 fours and four sixes. At the end of day's play, Masood was batting on 212 from 185 balls, including 28 fours and two sixes. The opposition bowling attack featured the likes of Mohammad Hasnain.

This is Masood's 33rd century in first-class cricket. He averages nearly 41 in the format.

Masood’s impressive run in red-ball cricket in 2025

Masood ended 2025 as Pakistan's highest run-scorer in Tests. From five Tests in the calendar year, he scored 397 runs at an average of 39.70, including a century and three fifties.

In first-class cricket in 2025, Masood is the third-highest scorer. At the end of Day 1, he had 15,624 runs to his name at an average of 71.09, including five tons and eight fifties. Only India's Karun Nair (1,640 runs) and Pakistan's Shamyl Hussain (1,626 runs) have more runs than him.

Masood focused on WTC

Earlier this year, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) offered him a full-time Director of International Cricket and Players Relations role. However, he turned it down to remain focused on World Test Championship (WTC). With a double century, Masood made it clear that he is not looking to cut short his career in international cricket.

So far, Pakistan have played just one home Test series in the current cycle. Against reigning WTC champions South Africa, they drew the home Test series 1-1.

Pakistan's next Test series is an away one. They will tour West Indies for a two-Test series in July-August 2026. Then, they will head to England for a three-Test series. Their last two Test series in the cycle are against Sri Lanka and New Zealand, two Tests each.
