Shubman Gill

India's Shubman Gill walks off the field after his dismissal during the third ODI of the series against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground in Sydney on October 25, 2025.

Story Highlights:

Shubman Gill hit two fours before falling to Goa pacer.

Gill's last fifty in white-ball cricket came over 10 months ago.

India’s ODI and Test captain Shubman Gill fell cheaply in his first game after getting dropped from T20 World Cup 2026 squad. Punjab opener Gill was dismissed for 11 in the run chase of 212 against Goa in Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26 clash in Jaipur.

Gill scored a four each off Arjun Tendulkar and Vasuki Koushik before losing his wicket to the latter. He got caught by Suyash Prabhudessai for a 12-ball 11 on the first ball of the fifth over of the run chase.

Gill’s half-century drought in white-ball continued. It has been more than 10 months since his previous half-century in white-ball cricket. Since then, he has played seven ODIs, 15 T20Is and one Vijay Hazare Trophy game. On the contrary, he was the highest run-scorer in Tests played in 2025 despite injury ruling him out of Guwahati Test and run chase at Eden Gardens.

Fog delays Punjab vs Goa match

Earlier, dense fog in Jaipur delayed the match. It was reduced to 40 overs per side game. Punjab skipper Prabhsimran Singh won the toss and opted to field first. Tendulkar and Kashyap Bakhale were dismissed for single-digit scores. Goa lost three wickets for 67.

Prabhudessai's 43-ball 66 and Lalit Yadav's 59-ball 54 helped Goa recover from early wickets. But, Mayank Markande caused another collapse with his four-wicket haul. Wicketkeeper-batter Rajshekhar Harikant ran out of partners as Goa were bowled out for 211 in 33.3 overs.

What's next for Gill?

Punjab's last league stage is against Mumbai on January 8 in Jaipur. It is yet to be seen whether the 25-year-old will be available to play the game against Mumbai.

Gill missed the ODI series against South Africa due to a neck injury. In his absence, KL Rahul led the side. Gill will lead the side against New Zealand in the three-ODI series starting on January 11 in Vadodra.
