TNPL player handed season-long ban and Rs1 lakh penalty, Know why

An unnamed Tamil Nadu all-rounder who made his Ranji Trophy debut last season has been ousted from the ongoing TNPL following a major anti-corruption infraction. Reports indicate that the cricketer was immediately released by his team after violating safety protocols, though the identity of both the player and his franchise are currently being kept under wraps.

The disciplinary action stems from an August 10 match at Dindigul’s NPR College ground, where the BCCI’s Anti-Corruption and Security Unit (ACSU) discovered an un-surrendered cell phone in the player’s possession inside the restricted Players and Match Officials Area (PMOA). Carrying communication devices into the dressing room zone is strictly forbidden under the board's integrity guidelines.

Following the recovery of the device, the ACSU formally escalated the matter to state officials. TNCA Secretary U Bhagawandas Rao verified that the association received the security report and subsequently ordered the franchise to keep the cricketer off the field for the remainder of the season while a full investigation takes place to determine necessary penalties.

A formal penalty proposal has accompanied the player's suspension, with the ACSU recommending a Rs 1 lakh fine for his initial anti-corruption code violation. Integrity officials revealed that the athlete was caught actively using a mobile phone—a major breach of player conduct rules. When initially confronted, he failed to offer a valid explanation, and his subsequent written response to an official notice was deemed unsatisfactory, prompting the monetary sanction.
