First Test between Sri Lanka and England will start from August 21.

Former England batter Ian Bell has been appointed as Sri Lanka's batting coach for their upcoming Test series in England. The announcement was made by Sri Lanka Cricket on Tuesday. Bell, who amassed 7727 runs in 118 Test matches, will join the Sri Lankan team later this week.

"He will start working with the team from August 16 and remain until the conclusion of the three-Test match series," SLC said.

SLC CEO Ashley de Silva expressed: "We appointed Ian to bring in a person with local knowledge to help the players with key insights on the conditions there."

"Ian has a lot of experience playing in England, and we believe his inputs will help our team in this crucial tour.

Sri Lanka's cricket team is set to embark on a challenging three-Test series in England, with the first match scheduled to commence at Old Trafford in Manchester from August 21 to 25. The second Test will be held at the iconic Lord's Cricket Ground from August 29 to September 2, while the series concludes at The Oval from September 6 to 10.

Meanwhile, a cloud of uncertainty hangs over the English team as their talismanic captain, Ben Stokes, sustained a hamstring injury during a recent Hundred match. The all-rounder was forced to leave the field with the assistance of team staff

and subsequently underwent scans. Images of Stokes using crutches have further fueled concerns about the severity of his injury, raising doubts about his availability for the Test series.

England will undoubtedly be monitoring Stokes' recovery closely, as his presence is crucial to their chances of success.
