Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Mohsin Naqvi broke silence on Jason Gillespie's shocking resignation as Pakistan's head coach. The former Australia star who joined PCB as red-ball coach earlier this year, stepped down ahead of the team's tour to South Africa. The 49-year-old was upset with PCB after they sacked assistant coach Tim Neilsen without consulting him.
"The straw that broke the camel's back, I suppose, was, as a head coach, you like to have clear communication with your employer. I was completely and utterly blindsided by a decision to not have a high-performance coach," Gillespie told ABC Sport in an interview after his resignation.
"You want to be able to have clear communication with all stakeholders, with selectors, for instance, knowing what the team is as head coach well before the game, or before at least the day before the game," he added.
Answering to Gillespie's allegations, Naqvi said that the team selection is the matter of selectors and the coach's role is to coach the team.
“The head coach’s role is to coach the team, while the selection committee is supposed to select players," Naqvi said as quoted by GeoNews.
After Gillespie's resignation, PCB appointed Aqib Javed as their interim head coach across formats. Pakistan cricket team-led by Mohammad Rizwan is currently in South Africa where they recently defeated Proteas 3-0 in three-match ODI series now the Men in Green led by Shan Masood will play two Test matches against Temba Bavuma & Co. which will take place from December 26 to January 7. The first Test match will take place from December 26 to 30 at SuperSport Park Cricket Stadium and the second match will take place from January 3 to 7 at Newlands Cricket Ground.
