Story Highlights:

Yuzvendra Chahal has been signed by Northamptonshire for 2026 season

Chahal has previously played for Northamptonshire

Ignored India leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal has been signed by Northamptonshire for the 2026 season of the County Championship. This will be his third stint with the club and he will be joining them for the second-half of the season in botth the County Championship and One-Day Cup.

Chahal's stats for the club are nothing short of brilliant as he has picked up a total of 44 wickets for them. He picked up 12 scalps in the three matches that he played this season in County cricket, including best figures of 6/118. Thanks to his impressive numbers, Northamptonshire have decided to sign Chahal as one of their two overseas signings for the season.

Darren Lehamann's verdict on Chahal

“Yuzi is a magnificent asset to this squad. His record across his career speaks for itself and he brings so much class and experience to the group. I loved working with him this year and am excited to go again in 2026… For young spinners in the group like Nirvan Ramesh and Stuart van der Merwe, having Yuzi around to guide them will be a huge plus for their game," Northamptonshire coach Darren Lehmann said in a statement.

Who is Northamptonshire's second overseas signing?

The second overseas player that has been signed by Northamptonshire is Australia seamer Harry Conway. Notably, he was quite successful this season, picking up a total of 20 wickets in four appearances. He will be available for the first-half of the season for Northamptonshire.

“Harry is an excellent addition for 2026. His form last year was fantastic, and I am excited to work with him for a longer period. His ability to take wickets on all surfaces and presence around the team makes him an invaluable player," Lehmann stated.

Meanwhile, it is unlikely that Chahal will be able to make an appearance for India in any format anytime soon. The 35-year-old has fallen way down in the pecking order behind the likes of Kuldeep Yadav, Varun Chakravarthy and Ravi Bishnoi when it comes to the shortest format.
