Former India cricketer Suresh Raina feels that both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli should participate in the 2027 ODI World Cup as not only have they been a part of title-winning teams before, but they also have the experience needed for the mega tournament. Notably, the duo are only active as players in the one-day format and have already retired from both Tests and T20Is.
There have a lot of speculations regarding Rohit and Virat's future with the Indian team and it is safe to say that there is no guarantee as to if they will be a part of the Men in Blue's for the World Cup that will be contested two years later. Notably, Rohit will be 40 while Virat will be 39 by the time the competition begins. If the two want to feature in the tournament then they will have to regularly take part in the one-day matches that the national team will play.
“Rohit & Kohli should play the 2027 ODI World Cup because they have won the T20 WC and the Champions Trophy, both Rohit and Virat have so much experience. I feel they will be there in the 2027 World Cup; they should be there," Raina said on Shubhankar Mishra's YouTube channel.
Rohit and Virat's ODI comeback
Meanwhile, both Rohit and Virat are likely to feature in India's upcoming three-match ODI series against Australia which is set to commence from October 19. Following the tour, the Men in Blue will also be taking on South Africa in a one-day assignment that will begin in November. Both of them have already started to prepare for theese two series as while Rohit was recently seen training with former India assistant coach Abhishek Nayar, Virat participated in a long net session at Lord's.
Meanwhile, the duo had shocked the cricketing world by announcing their sudden retirements from Test cricket earlier in May. This was due to the fact that India's tour of England was right around the corner. This left a massive void in the Men in Blue's Test set-up right ahead of a highly-important assignment.
