Tilak Varma, Mohammed Siraj

MI's Tilak Varma (L) walks back to the pavilion after his dismissal by GT's Mohammed Siraj (R) during the IPL Eliminator at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium, Chandigarh on May 30, 2025.

Story Highlights:

Tilak Varma and Mohammed Siraj were picked for Rs 33 and Rs 14 lakh in TG20 auction.

TGCA has alleged that HCA is conducting TG20 league without BCCI's authorisation.

India’s newly-appointed T20I vice-captain Tilak Varma, experienced pacer Mohammed Siraj, former batter Ambati Rayudu and film actors Vijay Deverakonda and Venkatesh have been issued legal notices by Telangana Cricket Association (TCA). The legal notices are a result of the three cricketers and actors' association with TG20 League. Telangana Cricket claims that the new T20 league which recently held its mega auction is not authorised by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) is engaging with corporate companies.

“The notice states that the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) is conducting business with corporate companies without BCCI approval and that promoting the HCA's TG20 League—which lacks BCCI authorization—constitutes an offense,” Telangana Cricket Association source told ANI.

Varma leads India A, Siraj rested

Currently, Varma is leading India A in the tri-series on Sri Lankan soil. With a win over Afghanistan A on June 17, India have qualified for the tri-series final on June 21 in Dambulla. Varma has scored three half-centuries in the tri-series already. He is the second-highest run-scorer after teammate Ruturaj Gaikwad (234 runs). After the tri-series, he will head to UK for the T20I series in Ireland and England.

Meanwhile, Siraj has been rested after the one-off Test against Afghanistan. His workload has been managed and he won’t be part of the UK tour either. He was replaced by Prasidh Krishna for the ongoing ODI series against Afghanistan and the UK tour. The decision has been taken keeping in mind the Test tour of Sri Lanka and New Zealand.

It is yet to be seen whether the experienced pacer will be picked for the ODI series against England which will mark the beginning of preparations for the ODI World Cup 2027 after warming up in the format against Afghanistan at home.
