Rohit joined a elite list of icons having a stand named after them at Wankhede, namely Sachin Tendulkar, Vijay Merchant and Sunil Gavaskar as a stand named after him was unveiled on Friday in the presence of his family, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) president Ajinkya Naik and NCP-SCP chief Sharad Pawar.

The ICC Champions Trophy-winning captain took his Instagram to share a video where he can be seen emotional while recalling his old days. Here is the clip.

"Absolutely a great feeling, a feeling that cannot be expressed in words because it would be very unfair to the feeling that I am having right now. Behind me, exactly where I'm standing, behind this stand is a railway track.  I remember those days when we used to come from the train, and just to get a glimpse of this stadium back in the day was such a special feeling.  And then  I came near the one-three-day stadium stand" said Rohit Sharma

"That was progress for me from just watching the ground from the train and then coming near the gate, the main entrance gate.  I remember when I first entered the stadium. A 15-year-old came to watch the Ranji Trophy practice and I saw all the stalwarts of Mumbai Cricket practising in the stadium. You know, slowly, slowly crawling my way into the stadium to have this special thing right behind me" added Rohit.

Batting great also thanked the MCA members, the Apex Council members for thinking about making a stand after him at the iconic stadium.

"I don't know how to express. It's a great, great feeling, and I'm very, very thankful to all the MCA members, the Apex Council members who actually thought that I could,  I should have a stand, not could,  I should have a stand in the iconic one-day stadium. And I know this is something that is going to be there forever,  forever,  whether I exist or not, it is going to be there. So,  it's very, very special" Rohit also said.

Rohit Sharma's next outing at Wankhede Stadium will be on May 21, when Mumbai Indians (MI) will face Delhi Capitals (DC) for the 63rd match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025.
