14-year-old Bihar opener Vaibhav Suryavanshi has struggled in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025 so far. After tonking a blazing ton in the Asia Cup Rising Stars 2025, Suryavanshi is yet to register a substantial knock for Bihar in the domestic T20 tournament. On November 30, his off stump was sent for a walk by Jammu & Kashmir’s in-form pacer Auqib Nabi.
In the run chase of 160 at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, Suryavanshi managed to score just five runs from seven deliveries. On the first ball of the third over, Nabi bowled a brilliant in-swinger. The young batter could not read the swing, played down the wrong line as the ball sneaked between the bat and bat to uproot the off stump.
Nabi was menacing with the new ball. In the first over, he got Mangal Mahrour out caught and bowled for a five-ball duck. After dismissing Suryavanshi, he dismissed wicketkeeper-batter Ayush Moharuka. Later, he returned to get rid of Suraj Kashyap who scored 21 runs from 14 balls. Kashyap got out for a 14-ball 21.
Jammu & Kashmir bowlers dominate proceedings
Nabi bowled four overs including two maidens and conceded just 16 runs. Yudhvir Singh Charak and Murugan Ashwin conceded at lower than six runs per over with two wickets each. Abid Mushtaq conceded just 16 runs from four overs. Umran Malik was the most expensive as he scored 50 runs from four overs. Malik's only wicket was Bihar skipper Sakibul Gani.
Earlier, opener Qamran Iqbal scored 64 runs from 40 balls, featuring seven fours and three sixes. Jammu & Kashmir posted 159/9 from 20 overs.
Suryavanshi struggles to get going
In three innings in SMAT 2025, the young southpaw has managed to score 32 runs. He registered scores of 14 and 13 against Chandigarh and Madhya Pradesh respectively.
Nabi makes IPL franchise notice
29-year-old Nabi has made IPL franchises notice with his recent performances. The new ball bowler has taken eight wickets from three games at an average of 12.25 in SMAT 2025. He is joint second-highest wicket-taker in the ongoing tournament.
