Ever since Roger Binny recently stepped down from the position of BCCI President, there have been a lot of speculations as to who will be the person to take over the role. Notably, the former India cricketer had stepped down earlier this year in July as he had turned 70 and according to the BCCI Constitution, every office bearer must leave his/her position after turning 70 years of age.
Now, BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia has provioded a little bit of clarity over the matter and has revealed that the members of the Indian cricket board will be discussing about the next President in the upcoming Annual General Meeting (AGM). He also revealed that the AGM will be taking place before the end of September and that the notice regarding the exact date of the meeting will be issued to the members in a day or two.
“Very soon, there will be a notice coming out regarding the next course of action. And also, the AGM is due before September 30. BCCI is going to follow its constitution, which is in place. According to the constitution, we have to conduct our AGM before the end of September every year. So this year also, there will be no deviation. We’ll have our AGM before September 30. And the notice regarding the exact date, time, and venue will be issued in a day or two," Saikia was quoted as saying to ANI.
Shukla to become next BCCI President?
Meanwhile, after reports regarding Binny's departure came out, it was expected that Rajeev Shukla will take over as BCCI's next President. Notably, Shukla is the vice-president of the Indian cricket board and is currently acting as the interim President. However, sources have told Sports Tak that there is only a slim chance that Shukla will get elected as the President and is likely to act as the vice-president in the coming future as well.
Meanwhile, Shukla had recently himself denied reports stating that he will be taking over as BCCI's next President and had labelled them as 'useless talks'.
“These are useless talks. When one spot is about to get vacant, the person next in line gets the interim charge before the election. It is a procedural thing," Shukla had told ANI.
