Former India captain and legendary batter, Virender Sehwag narrated an incident that forced former Pakistan speedster Shoaib Akhtar to fall down at Sachin Tendulkar's feet asking for forgiveness. Sehwag revealed that during an event Akhtar tried to lift the 'God of Cricket' on his shoulders but failed in his attempt. As a result, both Akhtar and Sachin ended up falling flat on the ground. Following the incident, the Pakistan speedster was scared and followed Sachin everywhere asking for forgiveness.
"In a party that was held for Indian and Pakistani cricketers in Lucknow, Akhtar had one too many drinks and he tried to lift Tendulkar. However, Tendulkar was quite heavy for him, and both of them ended up falling on the ground. I could not stop laughing at the incident,” Sehwag said at News 18 Chaupal.
Sehwag also revealed that the Indian cricketers pulled Akhtar's leg and kept teasing the 'Rawalpindi Express' after the incident. Sehwag also revealed that whenever he sits with Sachin, the two still share a laugh talking about the incident.
"I used to tease him a lot. You are out, your career is over. You have dropped our top player. And he was scared, he kept following Sachin everywhere saying sorry and even fell down at his feet. Still, me and Sachin, whenever we sit together, we go back to the incident and laugh about it," the former India captain added.
Sehwag, Sachin and Akhtar were involved in numerous crunch India-Pakistan matches. While the players competed hard on the field, the rivalry didn't spill out of the ground.
But when it came to the actual competition on the field, the rivalry was intense. Akhtar himself revealed that there was a time when wanted to hit Sachin on the helmet.
“I'm revealing this for the first time. I intentionally wanted to hit Sachin in that Test match. I was determined that I had to wound Sachin in that Test at any cost,” Akhtar had said during a chat with Sportskeeda.
“Inzamam kept telling that bowl in front of the wickets, but I wanted to hit Sachin. So I hit him on his helmet and I felt he was done. But when I watched the video, I saw Sachin had managed to save his head," he added.
