Troubling news came from Day 1 of the first session of Test between Sri Lanka and West Indies at Galle International Stadium. Debutant West Indies player Jeremy Solozono has been taken to the hospital after getting smashed on the front of the helmet grill while fielding at short leg. Solozono was down on the floor after getting hit and stretcher was called immediately to carry him off the field. In the immediate aftermath, the medical staff came to examine the condition of the West Indies batter.
After accessing the medical condition of the 26-year-old, he was rushed to the nearby hospital for the treatment. The scans are still going on and the entire cricketing world is praying for the debutant to get back on his feet as soon as possible.
Earlier, on the fourth ball of the 24th over of Sri Lanka’s innings, West Indies spinner, Rostan Chase had dropped the ball short and the Sri Lankan skipper, Dimuth Karunaratne had muscled the ball straight on the helmet of Solozono who was fielding at the short-leg. The fielder tried ducking but unfortunately, the powerful shot had hit him straight on the front of his helmet. Also, upon impact, the rear part of the helmet was seen coming off.
The concussion substitute will be available for West Indies in case Solozono is not declared fit to play for the remainder of Test.
