West Indies win Test series vs Sri Lanka after 23 years, drawn Test leads to minor changes in WTC table

The second Test of the series in Antigua ended in a draw on July 7. The drawn Test led to West Indies winning the two-Test series by 1-0 against Sri Lanka at home. Roston Chase-led West Indies ended their drought of a Test series win which lasted three years and five months. It is also their first Test series win over Sri Lanka in 23 years.

In a high-scoring game, Sri Lanka sent a target of 302 for the hosts. The declaration from Sri Lanka came three overs after the lunch break. In the run chase, West Indies did not look in a hurry to finish. West Indies openers John Campbell and Brandon King scored fifties as the hosts were 109 for no loss after 40 overs.

Big scores in 1st innings of both teams

Earlier, in the first innings, opener Lahiru Udara's 188 and fifties from Kamindu Mendis (84), Kusal Mendis (69) and Sonal Dinusha helped Sri Lanka post 549/9 before declaring. In reply, Campbell scored 72. Later, Shai Hope's 112 and Justin Greaves' 180 helped West Indies post 499 and reduce the deficit to just 50 runs. For Sri Lanka, Asitha Fernando starred with a fifer. Sri Lanka looked to score quickly and posted 251/9 in 49 overs. Dinesh Chandimal top-scored with 71.

Who will West Indies, Sri Lanka face next? 

The drawn Test led to an improved win percentage for both teams. Sri Lanka and West Indies remained sixth and eighth in the World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27 points table. West Indies will now play a two-Test series against Pakistan at home starting later this month. Sri Lanka will host India next month for a two-Test series.
