Within a week, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma announced their retirement from Test cricket. While the young batters will have big shoes to fill in the longest format when India tour England for a five-Test series starting next month, the senior duo will continue to play in the ODIs. After the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, there will be a big break for Rohit and Kohli as the first ODI series since ICC Champions Trophy 2025 triumph will begin in August.
India are scheduled to tour Bangladesh for a limited-overs series including three ODIs. The first ODI will be played on August 17 at Shere Bangla National Stadium, Dhaka. The second ODI on August 20 will be played at the same venue. The third and final ODI will be played in Chattogram on August 23. However, there were reports that India may not tour Bangladesh amidst unrest in the country.
Then, India will tour Australia where they will take on each other in a three ODI series. The first ODI is at Perth Stadium on October 19 where Kohli scored his Test career's last century. The second ODI will be played on October 23 at Adelaide Oval followed by third ODI at Sydney Cricket Ground on October 25.
South Africa will tour India for an all-format tour After the two-Test series, the three ODI series will commence in Rachi on November 30. The second ODI is on December 3 in Raipur. The third and final ODI of the series will be played in Visakhapatnam on December 6.
Overall, India are scheduled to play nine ODIs in 2025.
Kohli, Rohit to move up the ladder
Kohli needs 44 more runs to become second-highest run-scorer in ODI cricket and surpass former Sri Lanka captain Kumar Sangakkara. Meanwhile, Rohit is currently the 10th highest run-scorer in the ODI format with 11,168 runs. He can surpass Pakistan's Inzamam-ul-Haq (11,739 runs), South Africa's Jacques Kallis (11,579 runs) and former India captain Sourav Ganguly (11,363 runs).
