In the run-up to the third season, in early 2025, Sneh Rana is one of the big names that has been let go by their respective Women's Premier League (WPL) teams in advance of the upcoming auction. Early December is when the auction is most likely to take place.
After skipper Beth Mooney exited the tournament due to an injury, the Gujarat Giants (GG), who have finished last in the five-team standings in both of the WPL's seasons thus far, have opted to let go of Tahuhu, Kathryn Bryce, and Rana, the all-rounder who led them in the first season. Mannat Kashyap, Veda Krishnamurthy, Tarannum Pathan, and Lauren Cheatle were discharged, but Vidarbha batsman Bharti Fulmali and India all-rounder Sayali Satghare were kept.
GG's head coach on Rana's release
"Sneh Rana wasn't guaranteed a spot in our starting XI. Ash Gardner is there and we have Priya Mishra, up and coming spinner. It's a really harsh call. She's great around the group and is experienced. It was a hard hard decision. But we felt, going forward, we have some improvements to do and some tough calls to make and that's why we went that way," said Michael Klinger
The off-spin-bowling all-rounder Rana has struggled in the WPL. He has not played in a white-ball match for India since December of last year, and he has not been included in a T20I XI since February 2023. She has only claimed six wickets (average of 52.16 and economy rate of 9.02) and 47 runs (average of 6.71) in 12 games across two seasons.
