He smashed 82 runs off just 46 balls, guiding his team to a comfortable chase of 177 at the Narendra Modi Stadium.
Thanks to his attacking knock, South Africa chased the target in only 16.1 overs and sealed a dominant nine-wicket victory. With this innings, Markram has now scored 264 runs in the tournament. That makes him the second-highest run-getter in the 2026 T20 World Cup so far. Not just that, he has also climbed to No. 2 on the list of captains with the most runs in a single T20 World Cup edition.
Aiden Markram surpassed Rohit Sharma
The record for most runs by a captain in one T20 World Cup still belongs to Pakistan skipper Babar Azam, who piled up 303 runs in six matches during the 2021 edition. India’s Rohit Sharma sits third on the list, having scored 257 runs in eight matches in the 2024 tournament.
