The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has denied reports of International Cricket Council (ICC) issuing them an ultimatum regarding their participation in ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026. Earlier, it was reported that ICC has rejected BCB's request to shift out their T20 World Cup matches from India to Sri Lanka. In addition, ICC asked them to play India or risk forfeiture. BCB has categorically denied the development and said that the ICC is willing to work with the board to address their security concerns.
“The BCB has also taken note of certain reports published in a section of the media suggesting that the board has been issued an ultimatum in this regard. The BCB categorically states that such claims are completely false, unfounded and do not reflect the nature or content of the communication received from the ICC,” the board said in an official statement.

BCB further said that the ICC is keen on ensuring Bangladesh's participation in the mega tournament.
“In its communication, the ICC has reiterated its commitment to ensuring the full and uninterrupted participation of the Bangladesh team in the tournament. The ICC has conveyed its willingness to work closely with the BCB to address the concerns raised and has assured that the Board’s inputs will be welcomed and duly considered as part of the detailed security planning for the event,” the board added in its media release.
“The Board will continue constructive engagement with the ICC and relevant event authorities in a cooperative and professional manner to arrive at an affable and practical solution that ensures the smooth and successful participation of the team in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026.
“The Bangladesh Cricket Board remains firmly committed to placing the highest priority on the safety, security and well-being of the Bangladesh National Cricket Team.”
What led to BCB raising security concerns?
BCB wants Bangladesh’s matches shifted out of India after their left-arm pacer Mustafizur Rahman was dropped by Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on instructions of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Bangladesh have all their group stage games scheduled in India, three in Kolkata and one in Mumbai. The BCB director Faruque Ahmed had said that he wants a hybrid model similar to that of Pakistan for Bangladesh’s matches but an official from ICC is yet to be made.
