The International Cricket Council (ICC) has reportedly decided to reject the Bangladesh Cricket Board's (BCB) request of shifting their 2026 T20 World Cup matches outside India. This comes after the BCB had recently written to the global cricket body and had requested them to play their share of matches in Sri Lanka instead of India. However, the ICC have rejected the request and have asked them to adhere to the tournament's schedule.
The glaring tensions between BCCI and BCB
Tensions between BCCI and BCB had escalated in the past few days after Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur Rahman was released from Kolkata Knight Riders' (KKR) squad for IPL 2026. The BCB had arranged an emergency meeting the same day and had decided to write a letter to the ICC, requesting them to change their venues for the T20 World Cup. They had also ordered a ban on IPL's broadcast in the country.
After their request got rejected, interim government's Youth and Sports Advisor, Asif Nazrul emphasized that Bangladesh wants to play in the World Cup, but not at the cost of national humiliation, players' security, and the country's dignity.
"We certainly want to play in the World Cup. But we do not want to play the World Cup at the cost of national humiliation, at the cost of the players' security, and at the cost of the country's dignity," Nazrul said.

BCB have received a letter from the ICC, but Nazrul believes that they have failed to comprehend the serious security issues that the Bangladesh players can face in India.
"We have received the ICC's letter, and it seems they have not been able to comprehend the serious security issues that have arisen in India. This is not just a security issue, but also an issue of national humiliation," Nazrul added.
BCB to send another letter?
With their demands rejected, BCB president Aminul Islam Bulbul has said that they will remain firm on their stance and will send another letter to the ICC soon. It remains to be seen as to where will Bangladesh play their share of matches in the T20 World Cup.
