India head coach Gautam Gambhir was all smiles as Suryakumar Yadav-led India beat New Zealand by a huge margin of 96 runs to win the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup title for the third time. As India reached where not team has before, former captain MS Dhoni congratulated the team in a post. Dhoni was present at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad, along with other World Cup-winning captains Kapil Dev and Rohit Sharma.
“History gets created at Ahmedabad, big congratulations to the team and support staff and to all the fans of Indian Cricket Team worldwide.such a pleasure to see all of u play. “And what a reason to smile, great seeing u!” Gambhir replied in the comments section.
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) also replied in the comments section: “This is everything! By everything, we mean.. EVERYTHING!"
After the thumping win over the BlackCaps, Gambhir revealed who playing the fearless brand of cricket has helped the team dominate oppositions.
"It is not only about inheriting a team, it is also about creating something of your own. So that is something for me which was always something I wanted to do as a coach - that can we play a completely different brand of cricket, where people can go and say that this is the team that has consistently outscored, outbowled, and has been a fearless group of players who do not fear losing a game of cricket," Gambhir said in the post-match press conference.
Gambhir creates history
Gambhir also became the first to win a T20 World Cup as a player and head coach. In the inaugural edition in 2007, Gambhir played under the leadership of Dhoni. The opener scored a 54-ball 75 in the final as India beat Pakistan by five runs. Nearly two decades later, he won the trophy as India’s head coach.
