15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is set to become India’s youngest player to make his international debut in June 2026. As Sooryavanshi proved that he is more than just a one-season wonder, instilling fear in bowlers by taking on the likes of Jasprit Bumrah, Trent Boult, Josh Hazlewood and others.
As per a report by the Indian Express, Sooryavanshi’s name has been shortlisted for the two-T20I series against Ireland.
“He is in contention for the Ireland tour and the selectors have shortlisted his name along with those of many other players,” a BCCI source told the English daily.
Not just the Ireland series, Sooryavanshi is likely to be picked for the three-T20I series against Zimbabwe in July as well.
If Sooryavanshi gets his maiden call-up, he will break Sachin Tendulkar and Shafali Verma’s record. Legendary Tendulkar was 16 years and 205 days when he made his Test debut. In women's cricket Verma was 15 years and 239 days old when she made her T20I debut.
Sooryavanshi’s numbers in IPL 2026
Sooryavanshi has been in sublime form in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 barring the blip against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on April 13. The Rajasthan Royals (RR) opener has scored 200 runs from five games at an average of 40 and strike rate of 263.13. He is the third-highest run-scorer in the ongoing edition.
Calls for Sooryavanshi’s inclusion grow strong
After witnessing his brutal assault against RCB, IPL chairman Arun Dhumal had called for Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee to pick him in the side.
“What an amazing batting display by Vaibhav Suryavanshi this @IPL 2026 season. This prodigy certainly deserves to debut for Team India @BCCI as the youngest given his performances. It’s rare you get chance to pick up someone so talented and sooooo young too. Certainly deserves his name to be recorded as youngest debutant for India,” IPL chairman Arun Dhumal wrote on X.
Not just Dhumal, several former Indian cricketers have praised the youngster as well. Former all-rounder Irfan Pathan also feels that Sooryavanshi is ready for the international cricket grind as he has shown he can take on international bowlers with ease.
