Rashid became the first bowler to complete 700 T20 wickets.

Afghanistan captain Rashid Khan reached where no bowler has in T20 cricket history. Rashid became the T20 format’s (T20Is, domestic T20s and franchise T20 cricket) first bowler to take 700 wickets. Rashid achieved the milestone in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 clash against UAE at Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi on February 16.

Muhammad Arfan became Rashid's 700th wicket in T20s. Interestingly, Arfan got out hit-wicket for a two-ball duck. Rashid bowled four overs, conceded 24 runs and claimed one wicket. He helped restrict UAE to 160/9.

There is no current player anywhere near Rashid's tally of T20 wickets. Former West Indies pace-bowling all-rounder Dwayne Bravo has 631 wickets from 582 games. Retired from T20Is, Sunil Narine has 613 wickets from 583 games. Among those who are regularly playing international cricket, Bangladesh's Mustafizur Rahman is next on the list with 412 scalps from 322 games.

Rashid takes 2nd spot on this list

Rashid is currently the second-highest wicket-taker in T20 World Cup history. From 26 T20 World Cup games, he has 41 wickets. However, he is likely to lose his spot soon to Australia's leg-spinner Adam Zampa who has 40 wickets from 23 T20Is. Another leg-spinner chasing him on the list is England's Adil Rashid with 36 victims from 33 games. The top spot belongs to Bangladesh’s Shakib Al Hasan with 50 wickets.

Rashid will have a chance to add to his tally when Afghanistan take on Canada in their last group stage clash on February 19 at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai.

Rashid moving on from double super over defeat to Proteas

Earlier, Rashid won the toss and opted to bowl first. He made just one change to the lineup by replacing Fazalhaq Farooqi with Ziaur Rahman Sharifi. As Afghanistan are already out of the T20 World Cup Super 8 race, he talked about moving on from the agonising double super over defeat to South Africa.

“Well, it's pretty hard, but that's something which has gone and we've learned from it. We played one of the best games of cricket and I feel I was lucky to be part of that game, but unlucky to be on the losing side. But, still you have to bring out your best. You're representing your country. It's a proud moment that you're representing your country in the World Cup and I feel like each game, you have to bring your best game. Whatever happened in the past, you can't think much about it. We learned from that and we keep moving. We have to make the nation proud again to play good cricket and give the fans some excitement,” the leg-spinner said at the coin toss.
