Shimron Hetmyer breaks Pakistan's Sahibzada Farhan's record to reach this milestone during India vs West Indies clash

West Indies batter Shimron Hetmyer has created a new record in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. The 29-year-old left-hander from Guyana now holds the record for hitting the most sixes in a single edition of the tournament.

Going into Sunday’s Super 8 match against India, Hetmyer needed just two sixes to move past Pakistan’s Sahibzada Farhan, who had hit 18 sixes in the 2026 edition. Hetmyer reached the milestone in style. He first cleared the ropes off Hardik Pandya in the 10th over and then smashed Varun Chakaravarthy for another maximum in the 11th over to set the new record.

Farhan had played seven matches in the tournament and finished with 18 sixes. Hetmyer, also playing his seventh match of this edition at Eden Gardens in Kolkata, now has 19 sixes to his name.

On the list of players with the most sixes in a single T20 World Cup edition, Nicholas Pooran follows Hetmyer and Farhan. Pooran had struck 17 sixes for the West Indies during the 2024 tournament.

Players who smashed most sixes in T20 World Cup history

Hetmyer has been in powerful form throughout this World Cup. He hit six sixes while scoring 64 against Scotland in Kolkata on February 8. In the next two Group C matches against England and Nepal in Mumbai, he added two sixes in each game.

He had a quiet outing against Italy on February 19, managing just one run from four balls. But he bounced back strongly in the first Super 8 match against Zimbabwe at the Wankhede Stadium on February 23, blasting seven sixes in a quick 85 off just 34 balls.
