Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has added Dushan Hemantha as a replacement for Wanindu Hasaranga in their squad for the T20 World Cup 2026. Sri Lanka's lead spinner, Hasaranga, has been ruled out of the marquee event after getting a hamstring injury during their opener clash against Ireland.
However, Hasaranga, despite getting the injury, managed to bowl his full quota of overs, where he picked up three wickets, conceding 25 runs.

Who replaced Dushan Hemantha?
Hemantha, who has replaced Hasaranga, has represented Sri Lanka in five ODIs and three T20Is ahead of their next clash against Oman, which will take place on February 12.
“The Event Technical Committee of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 has approved Dushan Hemantha as a replacement for Wanindu Hasaranga in the Sri Lanka squad," stated an ICC release.
Hasaranga's injury was confirmed after an MRI, which identified a severe tear in his left hamstring. To ensure an accurate diagnosis, the medical reports were reviewed by a specialist in the UK, leading to the definitive decision to withdraw him from the squad. Sri Lanka is now expected to call up fellow leg-spinning all-rounder Dushan Hemantha as his injury replacement.
