Hardik Pandya's IPL future is the subject of intense speculation as the 2027 season approaches.

Having captained the Gujarat Titans to their maiden IPL title, Pandya subsequently returned to Mumbai Indians, a stint that has been plagued with challenges. Mumbai Indians narrowly avoided finishing last in 2026 after previous struggles in 2024 and 2025. Despite his valued skills as a player, his leadership aspirations have complicated potential trades and franchise moves.
Reports indicate that Gujarat Titans were open to reacquiring Pandya, but his demand to return as captain conflicted with the existing stable leadership of Shubman Gill. This condition has reportedly scuppered the deal, reflecting the complexities surrounding Pandya's captaincy ambitions since 2023. His spokesperson confirms that no direct negotiations have occurred, with all trade discussions channeled through Mumbai Indians as per league protocols.
The captaincy condition significantly narrows the teams willing to consider Pandya's acquisition. Kolkata Knight Riders, Lucknow Super Giants, and Delhi Capitals emerge as the only franchises potentially open to offering him captaincy. Other franchises such as Punjab Kings, Rajasthan Royals, Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Gujarat Titans, and Sunrisers Hyderabad are believed to have stable leadership, making them unlikely options.
